What is .925 Sterling Silver?
The Short Answer:
Sterling silver consists of at least 92.5 percent silver and 7.5% percent of other metals like copper, nickel, or both. The reason for this is Pure Silver or Fine Silver, is very soft and very malleable making it easy to damage or bend. Other metal alloys like copper or nickel are added to the silver to make a more durable piece.
All items sold by Silver Superstore as “Sterling Silver” contain at least 92.5% percent Silver and are stamped with either “.925”, “Sterling Silver”, or both.

The Salisbury Sterling Silver Jefferson Cup is a stunning piece of American history and craftsmanship. This exquisite silver cup is modeled after the original design commissioned by Thomas Jefferson in the early 19th century. Jefferson, upon inheriting two silver cups from his dear friend and mentor George Wythe in 1806, decided to have them melted down and refashioned into a set of eight cups more suited to his refined taste and the style of the time. He entrusted this task to the renowned Virginia silversmith John Letelier, who skillfully crafted the cups into an elegant, round-bottomed tumbler design. The low profile and smooth, simple lines of the cup reflect the neoclassical style popular in Jefferson's day. Letelier returned the finished cups to Jefferson at his Monticello estate by 1810, where they quickly became cherished favorites of Jefferson's family. Today, the Salisbury Sterling Silver Jefferson Cup allows you to own a piece of this rich history. Crafted from gleaming .925 sterling silver, each cup has a satisfying weight and a bright, polished finish that highlights the beauty of the metal. The cup measures 3.25" in diameter and stands 2.50" tall, with a 7oz capacity that is perfect for sipping fine spirits or displaying as a decorative treasure. Undoubtedly, the Jefferson Cup will become a beloved heirloom in your family, just as the originals were to Jefferson and his kin nearly two centuries ago. It is a timeless symbol of the ingenuity and elegance that define the best of American design and craftsmanship.
